The medicine is usually acquired in a cardboard packaging. Within, a few blisters and printed guidelines can be found. Why blisters? Firstly, they shield the drug from outside environment: humidity and pollution. The material is not picked at will. It is polymer or aluminium. Chemical compounds, like PVC and its combinations with other substances are applied. They can be easily formed with the help of specialized appliances in very hot conditions. After the desired shape of the packaging is finished, the tablets are put inside it. Then, they are closed by the lid. It is typically made of aluminium or polymer foil. During tablet packaging process, a wide range of factors has to be taken into account. The substrate material which is applied must not enter any reaction with the drug. It has to be durable enough to protect the tablets from cracking. At the same time the final packaging must be easy to use. Older patients must be able to unpack it without bigger problems, but not the children. It is not easy to invent such kind of blister.
